MEC Douglas Philand Past Depute First Grand Principal has Passed the Veils.
MEC Douglas was very well known throughout many Orders in our Institution but particularly here in the Holy Royal Arch not only as a Past Depute First Grand Principal but also as an Honorary Member of the Provincial Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Glasgow.
He was a perfect gentleman, long-serving member of our community and long-standing servant of more than 30 years to his constituency within Argyll & Bute wherein he was appointed Provost in 2024.
Glasgow Cryptic Council No. 50
On Wednesday 26th August 2026, Glasgow Cryptic Council No. 50 was delighted to host the Tri-Council Meeting, where the Cryptic Degrees were conferred upon two candidates.
Following the meeting, the Thrice Illustrious Master of Glasgow Cryptic Council No. 50, Ill. Comp. Ian Haldane, is pictured alongside Ill. Comp. John McLymont, Thrice Illustrious Master of East Kilbride Cryptic Council No. 761, and. Ill. Comp. John Donaldson, Thrice Illustrious Master of Levenmouth Cryptic Council No. 261.
A most enjoyable evening of Cryptic Masonry, friendship and fellowship was had by all in attendance.
Clydesdale RAC No. 489 – Honorary Provincial Grand Rank Presentation
On Friday 28th August, the deputation from the Provincial Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Glasgow, headed by MEC Robert McFarlane, Depute Grand Superintendent, were in attendance at Clydesdale Royal Arch Chapter No. 489 to make a special presentation.
MEC Stuart Hay P.Z. was presented with the Honorary Provincial Grand Rank of Honorary 2nd Provincial Grand Principal of the Provincial Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Glasgow, in recognition of his dedication, commitment and continued service to Clydesdale RAC No. 489 and to Royal Arch Freemasonry in general.
This well-deserved honour recognises the considerable contribution MEC Stuart Hay has made over the years, and the Provincial Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Glasgow extends its warmest congratulations to him on receiving this distinction.

Royal Arch Degree at Clydesdale RAC No. 489
On Friday 28th August 2026, Clydesdale Royal Arch Chapter No. 489 had the pleasure of conferring the Royal Arch Degree on four of their Excellent Masters.
MEC Robert McFarlane, Depute Grand Superintendent, headed a deputation from the Provincial Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Glasgow. He was accompanied by the Grand Superintendent, MEC Gary D. Smith, members of the Commission and a number of Provincial Grand Office-Bearers.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening of Royal Arch Masonry, friendship and companionship.
The Provincial Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Glasgow extends its congratulations to the four Excellent Masters on receiving the Royal Arch Degree and our thanks to the Companions of Clydesdale RAC No. 489 for their warm welcome and excellent degree work.
